Eight Commissions

The periodic table of elements remains a milestone in scientific systematisation to this day. It stands for the continuous development of knowledge and embodies the human urge to recognise and organise structures. At the same time, it contains gaps for the yet undiscovered – a principle that ensemble mosaik has also been pursuing for 28 years: the constant search for new sound spaces, interpretative approaches and compositional concepts.

With the large-scale, multi-year project Das Periodensystem (The Periodic Table), ensemble mosaik is setting elements known to date to music. Commissioned compositions each focus on one or more elements. The concept is complemented by interdisciplinary collaborations with festivals, scientists and institutions.

The ensemble mosaik has commissioned compositions from Maja Bosnić, Ricardo Eizirik, Jonah Nuoja Luo Haven, Jessie Marino, Julia Mihály and Oxana Omelchuk, Feliz Anne Reyes Macahis and Alexander J. Villanueva.

The commissions are made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
