MusicAeterna Choir

The MusicAeterna Choir is led by Teodor Currentzis as artistic director in collaboration with choir director Vitaly Polonsky and is part of the Perm State Ballet and Opera Theater. The first performances of the MusicAeterna Choir in its current form took place in Perm in 2011. The choir’s concert repertoire ranges from Baroque to Russian choral music of the 18th to 20th centuries to contemporary compositions. In 2014, the choir performed with the MusicAeterna orchestra in Berlin, Lisbon, Paris, and Athens, performing a concert version of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Handel’s Dixit Dominus.

The MusicAeterna Choir has appeared on several CD and DVD recordings, including Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Stravinsky’s Les noces, and Purcell’s opera The Indian Queen, directed by Peter Sellers and conducted by Teodor Currentzis. In 2015, the MusicAeterna Choir performed at the Aix-en-Provence Festival with a program of sacred music ranging from William Byrd and Johann Sebastian Bach to Sergei Taneyev, Igor Stravinsky, and Alfred Schnittke. In 2014, 2015, and 2016, the MusicAeterna Choir was nominated for the Opera Awards.

The MusicAeterna Choir is the choir of the Perm State Opera, which is supported by the Perm Krai government.
