79th Frühjahrstagung: echt

The 79th Frühjahrstagung of the Institut für Neue Musik und Musikerziehung Darmstadt will take place in April 2026 under the title echt. The concept of the conference is based on increasingly frequent questions about authenticity, credibility, verifiability, and the basis of data and facts, but also on experiences of ambiguity and confusion of identities, statements, perceptions, and phenomena in an increasingly complex and media-driven world. How can contemporary art and music open up opportunities to engage with these developments?

As a meta- and subtext, art projects/compositions are often overlaid and underpinned by the search for what is hidden, as well as the challenge of wanting to understand the meaning of what is presented, heard, seen, and read, but being unable to grasp it, or only to a limited extent, which often leads to a sustained engagement with doubts and open questions.

The 79th Frühjahrstagung is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and includes concerts, lectures, discussion panels, workshops, listening labs, and a parcours. Topics include the music-internal question of interpretability and perception in psychologically and physiologically conditioned “parallel worlds.”
