A celebration for Wolfgang Rihm

Heidelberger Frühling (DE)

On March 31, 2026, the Heidelberger Frühling will celebrate the exceptional composer Wolfgang Rihm with a program dedicated to his work. Three events will honor the diversity of his oeuvre: beginning with Music for Three Strings (1977), followed by a piano recital with a tribute by Prof. Ulrich Mosch, and concluding with Vigilia for six voices and ensemble.

Rihm’s death in the summer of 2024 not only caused consternation and deep sadness in the music world, it also left an immense gap. His almost incomprehensible productivity, his sensual and intellectually sharp approach to all things aesthetic, and, last but not least, the sheer mental and physical presence of Rihm as a person: all of this is now missing. Far and wide, there are no figures in sight who could satisfy the longing for such forces. The Heidelberger Frühling’s celebration of Wolfgang Rihm invites music lovers and former companions, but also a new, young audience, to remember this epoch-making artist and explore the various facets of his artistic personality.
