Daniel Zea

Commission to Daniel Zea

Contrechamps, Geneva (CH)

Daniel Zea’s AUTORRETRATO EXTENDIDO premieres on February 7, 2026, as part of Contrechamps’ Kino-Sonic Night—a series of concert-screenings, installations, and performances in the Ansermet Auditorium. The work will tour North America with additional performances in Saguenay, Montreal, Toronto, and New York. The work features a performer, facial recognition, 3D animation, and electronic sound.

Swiss-Colombian designer, composer, and sound artist Daniel Zea lives in Geneva. His practice combines instrumental and electroacoustic music, hybrid performances integrating video, gesture capture, and physical computing, as well as programming. Contrechamps has collaborated with Zea for several years, and his music is now part of the ensemble’s core repertoire.

On AUTORRETRATO EXTENDIDO, Zea says:
“For several years, I have been fascinated by the face as an inexhaustible source of expression. This led me to explore gesture capture and facial recognition as interfaces for hybrid systems combining sound, image, and real-time performance. My own face attempts to animate digital artifice—an ironic take on the narcissistic fictions of contemporary society, framed as an autobiographical black-comedy video game.”

The commission to Daniel Zea is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
