FABER

Oslo Sinfonietta (NO)

FABER is Oslo Sinfonietta’s platform for children and young people to explore and create contemporary music through collaboration with professional musicians. The project introduces young participants to the aesthetics and open-mindedness of contemporary music, encouraging them to develop their own ideas, compose, and perform together with members of the ensemble.

Each year, FABER includes several initiatives: a project engaging upper secondary students in a creative process from concept to concert; Workshops and seminars with youth orchestras, focusing on improvisation and non-traditional sound-making; and collaborations with institutions such as the Ultima Festival and the Norwegian Academy of Music, connecting young musicians with Norway’s professional music scene.

One of this year’s central themes explores nature as a source for composition, with guidance from composers Cecilie Ore and Kristine Tjøgersen. In addition, Harpreet Bansal will lead workshops on the interplay between Indian musical traditions and contemporary improvisation. FABER will also take part in Oslo Sinfonietta’s 40th anniversary, offering workshops for young composers and collaborative sessions with Japanese anime artist Kanji Okai.

FABER is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
