Seltene Erde: alchimia communicationis

The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation supports the Spanish premiere of Chaya Czernowin’s Seltene Erde: alchimia communicationis (2022), a work for 14 musicians and double bass solo with prerecorded material. The performance features Evan Hulbert of Klangforum Wien, who has previously performed the piece and will work directly with the composer during rehearsals.

Grupo Enigma first collaborated with Czernowin in 2023 with the Spanish premiere of The Fabrication of Light, a project that led to her appointment as the ensemble’s first Distinguished Artist and the beginning of a longer-term artistic partnership.

Seltene Erde centres on the double bass solo, surrounded by an ensemble divided into shifting groups that interact in brief, unstable configurations. The soloist must also coordinate four pre-recorded double bass tracks, making prior experience with the work essential.
