Terminal Infinity
Berliner Philharmoniker (DE)
Terminal Infinity is an audiovisual, performative and immersive installation. Humans are in a state of transition in which technological progress and optimisation are gradually making them dispensable. The artistic work captures snapshots of this change. It is a loving farewell letter to the Anthropocene: the transition of the integrity of the human body and its soul to an alternative biosphere that is as beautiful as it is unsettling.
The presentation is not a purely musical performance, but also a visual performance in its tempo and formative design. The piece begins with a staged introductory atmosphere and transitions into an approx. 80-minute performance and musical presentation, which in turn comes to a scenic close. The work thus combines installation and performance and offers the audience a place that invites reflection and immersion.
The scenery combines elements of technology and nature, creating a stylised temple of the future. The setting is decisively characterised by a light installation consisting of light panels and a complex setup of light objects. The twelve-member ensemble is integrated into the space during the dancers’ ritual performance. It interacts with the audiovisual and electronic components of the work.
Terminal Infinity is a concert project of cultural participation. Based on contemporary music, Terminal Infinity has a mediating and offensive aura. Questions about our bodies and our identity as well as the philosophical, political and social content offer points of reference for society at large. The audiovisual performance is also designed for visitors who are enthusiastic about contemporary classical – or more broadly electronic – music as well as dance and theatre. However, with the interplay of trades and the overlapping of different genres, the project arouses interest far beyond a specialised audience and appeals to younger people in particular.
The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation supports this educational project.
