Daniele Ghisi
Biography
Daniele Ghisi was born in Italy in 1984 and studied composition with Stefano Gervasoni and mathematics at the University of Milan Bicocca. Between 2008 and 2011, he attended the “Cursus de composition et d’informatique musicale” at Ircam in Paris. He spent a year as composer in residence at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin (2009-2010). From 2011-2012 he was a member of the Académie de France à Madrid – Casa de Velázquez and returned to the Ircam in 2012.
Daniele Ghisi then went to the Haute École de Musique in Geneva as a research assistant from 2013 to 2014, where he became artistic and scientific advisor in 2019. His collaboration with the Divertimento Ensemble in 2015 was very fruitful and resulted in his first monographic CD (Geography). In 2017, Ghisi received his PhD in Composition and Music Research from Sorbonne University and received teaching assignments in electroacoustic composition at the conservatories of Genoa and Piacenza. In 2020, he joined the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies at the University of California, Berkeley as a research associate for one year. He currently teaches electroacoustic composition at the Turin Conservatory.
Daniele Ghisi has worked with various ensembles and orchestras, including Ensemble intercontemporain, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Ensemble Modern, Divertimento Ensemble, Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice, Orchestre des Pays de Savoie, FontanaMix Ensemble, Quartetto di Cremona, Orchestra Regionale della Toscana and Ulysses ensemble. His works have been performed at festivals such as ManiFeste, Milano Musica, RSMAD Glasgow Piano Festival, GRAME, MiTo Settembre and Festival Archipel.
In addition to his work as a composer, Daniele Ghisi is also a scientist. In his dissertation, he dealt with techniques for computer-aided composition. He is involved in the development of corresponding software. This led to the creation of the online library “bach”, “cage” and “dada”.
He is co-founder of the collective /nu/thing. His music is published by Ricordi.
