Malte Giesen
Biography
Malte Giesen studied composition/computer music at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart with Marco Stroppa and Oliver Schneller, followed by further studies at the CNSM Paris with Gérard Pesson and Hanspeter Kyburz and electroacoustic music with Wolfgang Heiniger at the HfM Berlin.
He has taught at the HfM Karlsruhe, the HfM Berlin, and the UdK Berlin. Since June 2021 he is the director of the Studio for Electroacoustic Music at the Akademie der Künste Berlin.
He received among others the first prize of the German Music Competition Composition in 2009, a prize of the Master Class Orchestra Composition of the SWR in 2012, the Carl von Ossietzky Prize of the City of Oldenburg in 2016, Neue Szenen III of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the second prize of the Stuttgart Composition Prize in 2017. He received various scholarships from the Association of Friends of the HfMDK Stuttgart, the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation, the Friends of the HfM Berlin as well as the Elsa Neumann Scholarship of the State of Berlin.
Malte Giesen works interdisciplinarily at the interface of instrumental composition, electronics, and other arts.
