43rd Edition of Musica

Festival Musica, Strasbourg (FR)

The 43rd edition of the Musica Festival in Strasbourg brings together around fifty contemporary music projects. With family-friendly programming, talks, debates, and networking opportunities, Musica continues to make contemporary music accessible to a diverse, international audience. This year’s program revolves around the theme of “new folklore,” as many artists revisit traditional instruments, past musical motifs, oral traditions, and collective forms of composition. What initially appears to be a nostalgic return instead emerges as a deliberate engagement with the concepts of territory, community, and the connections music can create.

Musica 2025 presents several world premieres, including Eternal Dawn by Alexander Schubert—a performance that combines artificial intelligence with micromechanical prosthetics—and The Sad Album by Laura Bowler, performed by the Strasbourg-based collective lovemusic. The Kronos Quartet, celebrating its 50th anniversary, will perform a new piece by Norwegian composers Benedicte Maurseth and Kristine Tjøgersen.

This year’s edition continues Musica’s commitment to promoting contemporary musical theatre, with works by Nina Laisné, Joris Lacoste, and Maëlle Dequiedt.

The 43rd edition of Musica is made possible with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
