59th Music Panel – International Contemporary Music Festival

Cantus, Zagreb (HR)

Music Panel is a festival of contemporary music founded in 1963. In addition to various concerts, the festival’s program is characterized by discussions and meetings where relevant issues of contemporary music are discussed. It is an intensive 4-day incubator for contemporary music with many opportunities for dialogue, encounter, and discussion. The festival is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

This year’s 59th edition of the Music Panel presents several European and Croatian composers who are currently key figures in the development and shaping of the contemporary music scene. In particular, there will be a focus on Croatian composers who live in different European countries and have different approaches to engaging with the European music scene. Ensembles such as the Zeitfluss Ensemble from Graz, Synchronos from Zagreb, the Croatian Radiotelevision Choir, the world music trio Monsieur Doumani (Cyprus), the Croatian saxophone quartet Papandopulo, the Trio Elogio and a specialist for contemporary clarinet music, Heather Roche, are on the program. There will also be a master class for young composers with composer Johannes Maria Staud (professor of composition in Salzburg) and a workshop on music criticism with Tim Rutherford Johnson (UK, Riot Ensemble, blogger).
