Abenteuer ChorKlang
Deutscher Musikrat | Podium Gegenwart, Bonn
For the 2026–27 school year, Podium Gegenwart is planning an educational project with two school choirs in Brühl (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Annaberg (Saxony). Through encounters with composers Eloain Lovis Hübner and Dariya Maminova, new contemporary repertoire for youth choirs will be created in close collaboration with the students. The personal exchange and participation in the creation of the work are intended to spark the young people’s enthusiasm for new music and openness to engaging with unusual sounds.
Eloain Lovis Hübner and Dariya Maminova are leading figures among the younger generation of composers, even though their aesthetics and artistic approaches differ significantly: While Maminova is a singer herself and tends to work with “classical” compositional approaches, Hübner often thinks in terms of staging and/or multimedia. Both have experience working with children and young people and incorporate their lived realities into their work. In the project, they will each work with a middle or high school choir, composing several short pieces for a polyphonic youth choir over a period of several months—both for the students and in collaboration with them.
In the summer of 2027, the resulting pieces will premiere in a school setting and be presented to the public. This performance gives other young people the opportunity to experience this music performed by their peers and to meet the composers in attendance.
Abenteuer ChorKlang offers young people the chance to discover new music through their own participation and to develop a personal connection to it through interaction with the composers. Choral work appeals to a broad range of young people, as no prior instrumental training is required. Even though the participating youth already have contact with music in their daily lives through their involvement in the choir, the new music, with its experimental forms of expression, is a new experience for them and opens up special musical worlds that they carry forward into their communities. At the same time, the composers can draw on the solid vocal skills of the two selected choirs to create works that are challenging, reflect the themes of the young people, and expand the existing repertoire for youth choirs with contemporary music.
The Abenteuer ChorKlang project is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
