Celebration concert – 70 years Beat Furrer
Cantando Admont, Wien (AT)
Beat Furrer celebrates his 70th birthday on 6 December 2024. No place would be more fitting than the Helmut List Hall in Graz to celebrate an anniversary concert with his music. Beat Furrer was heavily involved in the acoustic design of the hall.
The anniversary concert, which is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, will be performed together with the vocal ensemble CANTANDO ADMONT, which has been intensively involved with Furrer’s music since it was founded, and the Graz-based Schallfeld Ensemble. The concert programme includes Beat Furrer’s Intorno al bianco for clarinet quintet and Akusmata for eight voices and eight instruments, as well as Franco Donatoni’s Blow and Claudio Monteverdi’s radically shattering and joyfully exultant Hor che’l ciel e la terra. The entire programme is full of musical cross-references, of a seductive, harmonic beauty and an excitingly ambivalent, rhythmic-melodic delicacy. Cross-references should not only remain sensual – they should also be put into language and in relation to each other. At the concert itself, there will be a discussion moderated by the cultural scientist and dramaturge Andreas Karl with musicians, composers and scientists from the natural sciences who will discuss alternative approaches to the music heard. The audience is invited to join in the conversation and discuss further questions in relaxed company at the reception afterwards.
