CelloDocu

Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (DE)

CelloDocu is a curated, freely accessible digital collection in various formats being developed at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts to help cellists, composers, researchers, and interested listeners navigate the catalog of works for cello from the 20th and 21st centuries. The collection consists of interviews, recordings, discussions, analyses, and other documents. The focus is on the creative process and evolving interpretations. Key aspects include notation, performance practice, and historical and biographical contextualization. CelloDocu centers on composers and cellists and their respective individual and specific working methods. The goal is to create a permanently accessible and ever-growing body of documents and information.

The publication is part of a research project led by Prof. Lucas Fels at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. It archives instructions, methods, and approaches to the cello repertoire of new and contemporary music. The project examines, on the one hand, composers and, on the other, cellists who are making exceptional contributions to the field of contemporary music, both in terms of style and era. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation supports the publication of CelloDocu.
