Commission to Agata Zubel

Les Percussions de Strasbourg, who perform with three female and three male musicians, cross artistic practices and develop new forms of composition in their ONLY project for a hybrid show consisting of four new works without percussion instruments created by four young artists: composers Agata Zubel, Yijoo Hwang and choreographer Noémie Ettlin.

The commission to Agata Zubel and the performance of her work are made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. Agata Zubel, who is used to traditional percussion, has taken on a new challenge and composed a sound and visual work for six painters using paint spray cans. Six blank canvases in frames and dozens of spray cans on shelves are the only decorative elements in this new rhythmic and graphic piece.  The common denominator of the works performed as part of the ONLY project is the abolition of the condition of men and women by projecting the six performers as painters, consciences, shadows and penguins through the four works.
