Commission to Bára Gísladóttir

Collective lovemusic continues its collaboration with Icelandic composer Bára Gísladóttir with a new work based on Clarice Lispector’s Água Viva. The working title, Alive and Glimmering Like the Instants, comes from the book and reflects Gísladóttir’s interest in trying to focus on something while creating: sensing something that cannot quite be seen and trying to catch it as it happens. This connects to her description of sound as a “living organism”: transparent, liquid-like, and breathing, fragile but also capable of weight and darkness.

Gísladóttir describes the work as “silver threads woven together into a transparent, liquid-like, breathing being,” exploring “the duality (and later unity) of fragility and darkness, breath and weight.” Electronics extend the ensemble’s timbral palette while remaining an integral part of the acoustic soundscape.

The score will exist in two versions, one for lovemusic alone and another including Gísladóttir on double bass, with an optional improvised part. The project includes a residency at the Fabrique de Théâtre in Strasbourg in 2026 and will premiere in May 2027.
