Commission to Catherine Lamb

Göteborg Art Sounds (SE)

As part of the Göteborg Art Sounds festival in October 2026, the Harmonic Space Orchestra will present the world premiere of Triangulations by Catherine Lamb, alongside the Swedish premiere of Poor little human being. Little child of Time by Elsie Hamilton. Both works reflect an engagement with sound as a relational force, rooted in the harmonic series—an approach that resonates with the Harmonic Space Orchestra’s focus on microtonality.

In Triangulations, Lamb explores the spaces where three points converge—conceptually, socially, poetically, physically, and materially. The piece is centered around the question: What occurs musically in space and time when three distinct points converge in the ensemble experience?

These triangulations unfold across multiple dimensions: interpersonal dynamics (active/passive/flexible), sonic tensions (tonality/spectrality/noise), and poetic concerns (transparency/opacity/totality). The Berlin-based Harmonic Space Orchestra, perhaps more deeply committed to rational intonation than any other ensemble, provides an ideal context for this work—allowing its harmonic focus to be fully realized.

The commission of Triangulations by Catherine Lamb is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
