Commission to
Émilie Girard-Charest
Ensemble Éclat, Montreal (CA)
Québecois composer Émilie Girard-Charest was commissioned by Ensemble Éclat for their project Échos de poussière. The project explores the physical and expressive qualities of sound, from soft and smooth to rough and harsh. The featured works prioritize timbre over traditional forms, highlighting the tactile and sensory aspects of music.
A few days before the concert, Girard-Charest will guide audiences through her creative process, showing how instruments and found objects can be rubbed, scratched, or struck to create new sonic textures. Participants will be invited to experiment collaboratively, engaging directly with the composer’s aesthetic in a hands-on, interactive experience.
The commission to Émilie Girard-Charest is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
