Commission to Emilio Guim
Dissolution Ensemble, Triengen (CH)
Timeless tales, mystical legends—fairy tales have fascinated people across cultures since time immemorial. To this day, they continue to inspire composers to create new works. For the Dissolution Ensemble’s concert Mythical Madness, Emilio Guim is composing a commissioned work in which he reflects on fairy tales and places them within the context of contemporary electronic music. In doing so, the composer not only draws on the classical elements of myths but also develops new narrative structures and soundscapes that musically represent the emotions and themes of the fairy tales in a modern context.
Emilio Guim’s new audiovisual composition intertwines alchemy, astrology, and religion into a ritual of image, light, and sound. At the beginning, a live video sequence emerges through a choreographed performance by the musicians. This material is processed in real time, distorted, and projected as a central visual layer throughout the remainder of the composition. The constantly shifting visual narrative combines with reactive lighting design and an immersive soundscape to create a multi-layered sensory space. A non-linear web of symbols unfolds, oscillating between the familiar and the unfamiliar.
The commission to Emilio Guim is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
