Commission to Eva Reiter

Be Fore, There Fore involves the collaboration between commissioned composer Eva Reiter, Marie Goudot, and Nikolaus Gansterer. The work is inspired by the Aymara concept of time—where the past lies visible in front and the future remains unseen behind.

Be Fore, There Fore integrates Reiter’s self-made instruments with Marie Goudot’s choreography. A network of magnetic tapes featuring audio recordings dating back up to 80 years stretches across the space. Performers wearing magnetic tone heads on their fingertips activate, manipulate, and overwrite these sonic traces in real time, moving between forward and rewind modes at varying speeds.

For the work, Nikolaus Gansterer brings his long-standing practice of Translectures—a hybrid format of performative drawing that fuses language, gesture, movement, voice and line into a live process of sensing and thinking. Gansterer maps gestures and mental processes, composes fragile diagrams and fleeting cartographies which result into a live animation film.
