Commission to Hasan Uçarsu
Istanbul Music Festival (TR)
The Istanbul Music Festival has been inspiring audiences for over 40 years and is the biggest event on the Turkish classical music scene. Since 2011, the festival has also been dedicated to contemporary music and has so far commissioned compositions from Arvo Pärt, Giya Kancheli, Peteris Vasks, Alexander Raskatov, Fazıl Say and Tigran Mansurian. For the Beethoven Year 2020, the Istanbul Music Festival commissioned a work for choir and orchestra from the Turkish composer Hasan Uçarsu, which will now be premiered in 2025. Hasan Uçarsu sets five poems from Asu by Fazıl Hüsnü Dağlarca (1914-2008) to music, in which not only living nature, but also man and his social life are understood as the basis of nature. Hasan Uçarsu was born in Istanbul in 1965, is one of the most important composers in his country and is a professor of composition at the Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi. The composition commission is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
