Commission to Oscar Bianchi

Supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, Italian-Swiss composer Oscar Bianchi has been commissioned to write a new work for solo cello for Portuguese cellist Gonçalo Lélis. The piece will be developed through a period of collaborative research, including an artistic residency in Aveiro, where Bianchi and Lélis will experiment with extended cello techniques, particularly multiphonics created by bowing behind the left hand. The world premiere is scheduled for May 2027 at the Reencontros de Música Contemporânea, followed by further performances and a planned studio recording.

The project is produced by ad hoc – associação cultural, a Portuguese non-profit organisation that supports artistic creation and the presentation of contemporary performing arts.
