Commission to Sara Stefanović

Under the title Geometries, the NAMES ensemble presents a three-part concert series consisting exclusively of world premieres. The term geometries refers to spatial as well as non-spatial orders and serves as a starting point for an artistic exploration of tonal, relational, and performative constellations.

For the first program, Sara Stevanović is creating a new work, made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. The concerts are being realized by NAMES in cooperation with the Graz Schallfeld Ensemble—two of the most influential ensembles for new music in Austria. The two ensembles meet on stage in a mirror-image formation, which not only creates a special visual situation, but also opens up a space for compositional experiments with symmetry and reflections. In addition to Sara Stevanović’s new work, a new composition by Filippo Perocco will also be performed.
