Commission to Silvia Borzelli, Giuliano Bracci & Stefano Pierini

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Ensemble L’arsenale has commissioned Silvia Borzelli, Giuliano Bracci, and Stefano Pierini to compose new works for soprano, accordion, saxophone, electric guitar, piano, and electronics.

Silvia Borzelli expands her 2015 work di questo, completing a piece built around words drawn from Andrea Zanzotto’s final poetry collection, Conglomerati (2009). Zanzotto’s reflections on nature as refuge and his critique of industrial and capitalist development serve as inspiration for Borzelli’s exploration of the voice and its relationship with the ensemble.

Giuliano Bracci revisits his 2015 composition inspired by poems from Jolanda Insana’s Medicina carnale and La stortura. He is developing the work into a larger cycle based on Insana’s poetry, paying homage to the late author.

Stefano Pierini’s Rizomata is a cycle of “songs” connecting texts through the recurring symbol of the sun. Inspired by Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of the rhizome, the work brings distant ideas into an interconnected network of “existential nodes.” Drawing on poets who function as Pierini’s Pessoan “heteronyms,” the cycle explores the energy and complexity of sound across multiple musical and linguistic influences.
