Commission to Steven Kazua Takasugi

No Hay Banda commissions a full-length composition from Steven Kazuo Takasugi. His work for ensemble (seven musicians, electronics and video) will premiere at the Montréal/Nouvelles Musiques festival in February 2025. Takasugi’s new work deals with the concept of the Theatre of the Face and uses computer algorithms to transcribe musical material into facial expressions and gestures. The music therefore does not appear as an accompaniment to the acting but becomes theatre in that the musicians themselves become actors. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation has made the commission possible.
