Commissions to Antonio Hasbún González & Félix Ibarrondo

Argo Kollektiv, Vienna (AT)

Argo Kollektiv is an ensemble dedicated to creating new music by young composers. In 2026, the ensemble will commission works from Félix Ibarrondo and Antonio Hasbún González, which will receive their world premieres at the Suena Festival in Vienna. After Félix Ibarrondo agreed to write a work for the ensemble, he was designated as the central figure of the program. The composer brings experience and aesthetic depth to the project, laying the foundation for a cross-generational dialogue among Ibero-American composers.

This choice aligns with the central concept of the 2026 edition of the Suena Festival, Palimpsest: music as overlapping layers in which the past and the new coexist, and traces of the past (like lines beneath an erased manuscript) enter into dialogue with the latest sonic ideas.

The new work by Félix Ibarrondo, together with existing works by Nuño Fernández Ezquerra and Macarena Rosmanich (Austrian premieres), forms the basis for a cross-generational exchange. The program is complemented by a new work by the young composer Antonio Hasbún González.

The commissions to Antonio Hasbún González and Félix Ibarrondo are supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
