Commissions to Bernhard Lang, Elnaz Seyedi & Hans Thomalla
Ensemble LUX:NM, Berlin (DE)
For fifteen years, Ensemble LUX:NM has made a significant contribution to the New Music scene in terms of its instrumentation, sound and aesthetics. For the concerts celebrating the 15th anniversary of Ensemble LUX:NM 2025, commissions will be awarded to composers with different compositional approaches. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is funding the commissions to Elnaz Seyedi, Bernhard Lang and Hans Thomalla.
In recent years, LUX:NM has characterised a sound that has also shaped the style of many younger ensembles. The recent addition of percussion and trumpet has continuously expanded and modified the ensemble’s sound colours and compositional possibilities. The instrumentation of the new works includes saxophone, trumpet, trombone, accordion, violoncello, piano, percussion and electronics.
The musicians of the ensemble work as a team in the tradition of chamber music, but have been continuously involved in the current musical discourse since the ensemble was founded. They see themselves as interpreters of the compositions and at the same time take responsibility for the entire stage event. With the selection of composers, the ensemble aims to build on the intensive ensemble work of recent years and further expand the repertoire already achieved for this innovative line-up. Above all, the ensemble’s tonal possibilities and the desire to create something new and to present different aesthetic approaches alongside a rich palette of expressive possibilities are expressed here
