Commissions to Cristián Morales & Manuel Contreras Vázquez
Fundación José Venturelli, Santiago (CL)
The Fundación José Venturelli has commissioned composers Cristián Morales and Manuel Contreras Vázquez to create two new works that reflect on democratic values and the challenges posed by authoritarianism. These compositions are inspired by the engravings of Chilean artist José Venturelli, specifically his 1975 work Patria negra y roja. The project establishes connections between sound, visuality, and current global events, drawing on Venturelli’s legacy of socially and politically committed art.
Each 25-minute work will be premiered in Santiago by the ensemble Taller Ciclo at Fundación Veta. The performances will integrate visual elements such as video projections and large-format prints, creating an interdisciplinary dialogue between music and visual art. The project includes an introductory talk and professional audiovisual documentation, which will be shared via open-access platforms and a special broadcast on Radio Beethoven’s “Siglo XXI” program.
The commissions to Cristián Morales and Manuel Contreras Vázquez are supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
