Commissions to Jérôme Combier, Filippo Perocco & Benjamin Scheuer

Schallfeld, Graz (AT)

The Schallfeld Ensemble’s 2026 concert series is themed Spiegelungen [Reflections]. The musicians reflect on their own development through the mirror of their musical environment and present composing and performing as an ongoing dialogue that consists not only in the creation of ever new works, but also in the cultivation of existing repertoire and long-standing artistic friendships. Three commissions have been awarded for the concerts to Jérôme Combier, Filippo Perocco and Benjamin Scheuer, made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

Concert tickets can be purchased – music and culture themselves are, as it were, the commons on whose foundation communal growth is possible in the first place. In view of ongoing crises and ever-deepening global conflicts, it seems more important than ever to bring music and art to the fore as a unifying force that transcends cultures, times and worldviews. While the motto of one of the Schallfeld Ensemble’s first concert years (2015) was Cross-X Identities, ten years later the musicians are now asking what constitutes connectedness, networking and joint development beyond singular identity. Despite international exchange, there are actors, styles and repertoires in new music that are strongly local in character. How do local and international developments relate to each other? How do the musicians resonate with each other, which composers and musicians are important points of reference?
