Commissions to Joanna Bailie & Eloain Lovis Hübner

It is completely impossible to imagine everything that is happening in the world at the same moment. A wide variety of temporalities and tempos unfold in parallel within the smallest of spaces. The week is over far too quickly; the day just won’t seem to pass. Temporalities collide; we meet in public spaces or on the phone, planned or by chance—sometimes it works out, often it doesn’t. Temporalities surround us with their sounds; sounds surround us in their temporalities.

On September 18 and 19, 2026, the Maulwerker ensemble will present a concert titled GLEICHZEITIGKEITEN, commissioning works by Joanna Bailie and Eloain Lovis Hübner, made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. Eloain Lovis Hübner’s new piece reflects on the fleeting nature of everyday life. Joanna Bailie’s new composition also draws on the polyphony of the everyday: the performers interact with a video of urban scenes and a stereo sound file of electronic sounds.

The concert GLEICHZEITIGKEITEN reinterprets the aesthetic principle of simultaneity and makes it tangibly accessible through its connection to contemporary everyday experience.
