Commissions to Laure M. Hiendl & Eloain Lovis Hübner

Ensemble Aventure, Freiburg (DE)

The Queer Art of Failure is an artistic reflection on productive failure as a catalyst for change. In cooperation with the Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Ludwigsburg, the Sommer Festival in Stuttgart, and Eloain Lovis Hübner, Ensemble Aventure is developing a full-length staged concert that reflects on failure from the perspective of queer theory. For the project, Laure M. Hiendl and Eloain Lovis Hübner are creating commissioned compositions made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

The project approaches the theme of failure not only through its content but also through its artistic methodology. The ongoing convergence of the arts in form, media, and methodology, as well as the easy availability of digital tools, has opened up new paths for young composers. In doing so, they sometimes also act as (more or less amateurish) video artists, performers, multi-instrumentalists, electronic musicians, and much more. Some have elevated carefree failure, the joyful “inability” (or non-action), and the incorporation and celebration of the unpolished, the profane, and the supposedly “makeshift” to a principle. This project is dedicated to the wild, bizarre, surprising, thoughtful, joyful, and poetic music that emerges in this way.
