Commissions to Malika Kishino & Kento Ishikawa
ÉRMA Ensemble, Cologne (DE)
Wise Water is the second concert in the ÉRMA Ensemble’s Panorama series, with a focus on Japan. The centerpiece of the concert program consists of two world premieres by Japanese composers based in Cologne.
Malika Kishino’s work Hydra is based on two concepts: it refers both to the nine-headed sea monster of the same name from Greek mythology and to the moon of the dwarf planet Pluto, which rotates chaotically on its axis. In addition, a commission will be awarded to Kento Ishikawa. This piece is to be written for nine instruments from ÉRMA’s core ensemble.
The inspiration and central element of Panorama – Wise Water is, as the name suggests, water. ÉRMA invites its audience to experience water influenced by sound in visual, auditory, and even tactile ways—whether still and calm or churning and stormy.
The commissions to Malika Kishino and Kento Ishikawa are made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
