Commissions to Mark Andre, Clemens Gadenstätter, Farzia Fallah & Ying Wang
œnm, Salzburg (AT)
To mark its 50th anniversary, the œnm . œsterreichisches ensemble fuer neue musik is staging five major concerts that revolve around the topics of time, sound, life, space and generations. In each of the concerts, the ensemble will perform works commissioned by the ensemble: by Mark Andre, Clemens Gadenstätter, Farzia Fallah and Ying Wang. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is making the four commissions possible.
Mark Andre will address the phenomenon of TIME in his work, which is scheduled to premiere in Salzburg in February 2025 and will also be the subject of two other works in the programme: Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s cantata Omnia tempus habent and Stefan Wirth’s Mnemosyne based on Friedrich Hölderlin. In Archipel Life (part of the SPACE programme), Clemens Gadenstätter reflects social phenomena in the field of tension between individuality and uniformity in a specific spatial disposition of ensemble groups. Farzia Fallah places her new work in the context of a modernist tradition that extends from Anton Webern to Luigi Nono and her teacher Younghi Pagh-Paan. Ying Wang’s composition Waterfall is part of a programme entitled LIFE: in her new work, she portrays five women who have experienced social repression and fought against it.
