Commissions to Mark Andre, Georges Aperghis & Nina Šenk
Münchener Kammerorchester (DE)
For decades, the Münchener Kammerorchester (MKO) has been a vibrant, unique hub for new and contemporary music. Numerous works have been commissioned by the MKO or premiered by it—not only in Munich, but also during guest performances in leading European music centers and on international tours. In 2026/27, the MKO will award commissions to Nina Šenk, Mark Andre, and Georges Aperghis, made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
The MKO has already had musical encounters with Nina Šenk’s work: in 2024, the orchestra performed her piece Chant at the schwere reiter in Munich. In 2025/26, the MKO will dedicate a composer portrait to Nina Šenk. The new work will receive its world premiere on July 1, 2026, under the baton of Bas Wiegers. The concert will also feature the works Chant and Flux with soloists Christoph Walder (horn), Anders Nyqvist (trumpet), and Krassimir Sterev (accordion).
Following the world premiere of Mark Andres’s kar in 2010, supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, it was the orchestra’s expressed wish to commission another work for chamber orchestra from him, as one of today’s leading voices. The new work for the MKO will be performed in November 2026 under the baton of Bas Wiegers.
Bas Wiegers has a close working relationship with Georges Aperghis, thus fulfilling the MKO’s long-held wish to commission a work from the Greek-French composer. The world premiere of the work for chamber orchestra—featuring flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets, timpani, and percussion—will take place in November 2027.
