Commissions to Michael Beil, Oxana Omelchuk & Benjamin Scheuer

KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen, Hanover (DE)

NEOCLUB OPERA is a collaboration between KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen and the Orchester im Treppenhaus. For this project, three commissions are being awarded to Michael Beil, Oxana Omelchuk and Benjamin Scheuer, made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

NEOCLUB OPERA brings new music and club culture together and gets the audience dancing. The aim is to merge separate musical spheres. While Oxana Omelchuk wittily and skilfully combines new music and big band, as well as her work on analogue synthesizers, Michael Beil represents the electronic, almost technoid and audiovisually virtuoso worlds of experience that have shaped an entire younger generation from Alexander Schubert to Stefan Prins. Benjamin Scheurer’s playfulness and lightness forms a bridge between these two styles when traditional instruments are joined by knick-knacks, toys and obscure sound generators. With all its dramatic highs and lows, a club evening unfolds that not only breaks new musical ground, but also embarks on a search for new and participatory forms of movement and dance.
