Commissions to Noriko Baba
Cité musicale Metz (FR)
Japanese composer Noriko Baba is composer-in-residence at the Cité Musicale in Metz for two seasons. As part of this residency, Noriko Baba will compose two new symphonic works for the Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est, made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. The works will be premiered in the Arsenal de Metz concert hall and are part of Noriko Baba’s cycle Bestiarium Musicale, which focuses on the animal world.
The first piece lasts approximately six minutes and will have its pre-premiere in July 2025 as part of a conducting masterclass. The piece will also be performed for the first time as part of the Concert d’ouverture of the 2025/26 season.
The second piece, with a planned length of 12 to 15 minutes, is inspired by the stocks of the future Pavilion for Biodiversity in Metz. It will be premiered in May 2026 under the baton of Elena Schwarz.
