Commissions to Sara Abazari & Stefan Beyer

ensemble unitedberlin (DE)

What is the current state of Berlin’s younger composer scene? Sara Abazari and Stefan Beyer are composing new works for the #echolot concert by ensemble unitedberlin.
#echolot focuses on the present in Berlin: younger composers whose works are intended to resonate with the audience—like an echo sounder that scans and reflects sound spaces.

In 2016, the ensemble already presented the work of eight younger Berlin composers with the ECHOLOT project at the Konzerthaus Berlin. The composers had the opportunity to introduce themselves through a world premiere or a Berlin premiere and to provide a documentary portrait of their personalities in video interviews. About ten years later, such a “snapshot” is to be taken once again—again with the awarding of commissions, including to Sara Abazari and Stefan Beyer.

The new works are being created for a classical string quartet, expanded by an additional medium. Iranian composer Sara Abazari is writing a work for string quartet and dance, while German composer Stefan Beyer is composing a new work for string quartet and video. The commissions are made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
