Composer in focus: Mark Andre

Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, Vienna (AT)

The Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna dedicates the 2022/23 season to the music of composer Mark Andre. The composer, born in Paris in 1964, creates existential spaces of experience in his works, which are characterised by subtle processes of change. At the centre of his thinking is the question of disappearance, which relates to all musical parameters such as sound, form, and subject. In his chamber music, which is as fine as it is concentrated, and in his orchestral works, the devout Protestant proves to be a sensitive sound researcher.

The central element of this portrait is the world premiere of a commissioned work with the Orchestre de Paris as part of the Musikverein Festival in March 2023. Numerous works by Andre will be heard throughout the season, from miniatures for solo instruments to chamber music and further orchestral works. The concert series Composer in Focus: Mark Andre of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Wien is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
