Concert Season 2023

Explore Ensemble’s 2023 concert season comprises two aspects: concerts and commissions. The concerts will present new and contemporary music across the UK and Ireland in a variety of venues and festivals. Commissions are awarded to composers Lara Agar, Beatrice Dillon, Hyperdawn, Nakul Krishnamurty and James Weeks and a new performance workshop format will be developed by Mark Fell and Rian Treanor. The Explore Ensemble’s 2023 concert season is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

The range of projects aims to continue the mission of Explore Ensemble: to present outstanding contemporary music of diverse backgrounds to audiences in the UK and beyond. The winners of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation’s Ensemble Prize 2022 will thus continue to create their own sustainable culture and artistic practices, realising their vision of a more inclusive and diverse contemporary music that is at once rooted in the region and connected nationally and internationally.

Commissions are awarded to artists from diverse musical and social backgrounds, with the aim of making the field of contemporary music more inclusive and diverse, both in terms of demographics and aesthetics.  Through new educational workshops and participatory performances, Explore Ensemble aims to break down the hierarchy between composer, performer and audience in order to reach a wider audience, engage a new generation of listeners and build direct links with local organisations and people in London.
