Concert tour 2024
Yarn/Wire, New York (US)
In spring 2024, the New York ensemble Yarn/Wire will go on tour and perform brand new music – all in the spirit of the ensemble’s practical approach and collaborative way of working with composers and artists.
In January 2024, Yarn/Wire work on Christoph Ogiermann’s new piece for the quartet, which premieres at Festival Eclat in Stuttgart in early February. This piece is accompanied by a brand new work by Eric Wubbels, with whom the ensemble is already working closely. Following this, Yarn/Wire travel to Georgia to work on a newly realized version of Katherine Young’s piece Biomes: an open-form score that requires research, collaboration and guided improvisation in order to be performed.
The ensemble will then travel to France for a research and development residency at IRCAM, where the musicians will work with Simon Steen-Andersen on a new concerto to be premiered in Donaueschingen in the fall of 2024. The residency will conclude with a performance of American music at the Columbia Center in Paris. At the beginning of April, Yarn/Wire will travel to the REWIRE Festival in The Hague after a concert at the Miller Theater in New York with music by Sarah Hennies. There, on April 7, the ensemble will perform rarely heard works by Annea Lockwood and other American composers. Shortly afterwards, the ensemble will return to the United States to Massachusetts to present a new, large-scale work by Patrick Higgins at the Clark Art Institute on April 21. Further stops on the tour will be at the Bergen International Festival on May 31 and June 1, 2024. There, the ensemble will perform music by Øyvind Torvund in a new work written for Yarn/Wire and JACK Quartet, as well as a piece for children with interactive elements.
Yarn/Wire’s concert tour in spring 2024 is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
