Contrasti 2024

The Contrasti 2024 festival offers a series of public concerts and encounters, all of which are dedicated to new musical compositions. The works will also be presented to the public as world premieres. Concerts by Schallfeld, Opificio Sonoro, Curious Chamber Players and the Ensemble MotoContrario as well as an international masterclass for composition by Malin Bång are the festival’s main events. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation supports the festival and the Contrasti 2024 Academy.

This year’s tenth edition of Contrasti will span five days of concerts and public and educational initiatives. An international masterclass in composition led by internationally renowned composer Malin Bång, recognised as one of the most important representatives of contemporary music creation, will be an integral part of the festival and will establish close relationships with composition students, guest ensembles and the audience. Participants in the masterclass will include ten students selected by Bång herself, who will have the opportunity to receive individual lessons and attend the entire course, which is also open to external students. In addition to the pedagogical activity of teaching composition, the related events will be fully integrated into the festival programme, such as the reading by the ensemble MotoContrario, a public seminar organised by the guest teacher in which the composer will analyse some of her works and guide listening, the meetings with the guest ensembles before the evening concerts and the final concert of the masterclass, in which MotoContrario will present the young composers’ new works for the first time.
