Corps à corps: A Tribute to Georges Aperghis for his 80th Birthday
Greek Composers’ Union, Athens (GR)
On the occasion of Georges Aperghis’ 80th birthday, the Greek Composers’ Union (GCU) presents the two-part initiative Corps à corps. Taking place in Athens in June 2026, the project combines performance, education, and mentorship to honor Aperghis’ artistic legacy and reinforce his connection to Greek musical life.
The first component is a tribute concert at PLYFA, a repurposed industrial space, featuring five of Aperghis’ emblematic works: 7 Crimes de l’Amour, Corps à corps, Fidélité, Retrouvailles, and Récitations. Performers from the ensemble TETTTIX bring together voice, harp, clarinet, and percussion to realize the complex interplay of music, gesture, and space characteristic of Aperghis’ oeuvre.
The second component is a public composition workshop and reading sessions, providing emerging composers the opportunity to develop new music-theater works under the mentorship of Aperghis and other experienced Greek composers.
The initiative in honor of Georges Aperghis is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
