Correspondence between Arnold Schönberg and Felix Greissle

Wolke Verlag, Hofheim (DE)

Arnold Schönberg’s pupil and son-in-law Felix Greissle (1894-1982) is known for his numerous arrangements of Schönberg’s works, unknown as their copyist and finally editor at the publishing house G. Schirmer in New York in the 1940s. In this capacity, he facilitated commissions for Schönberg and organised numerous performances with the great conductors of the time.

This familial-professional dual role resulted in a constant exchange of letters. This extensive correspondence, in combination with Greissle’s memoirs, represents a milestone in Schönberg research and reception. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is making possible the publication of Arnold Schönberg’s correspondence with Felix Greissle by Wolke Verlag. The volumes of the project will be published by mid-2027.
