Ensems Festival
Institut Valencià de Cultura (ES)
The Ensems Festival is a festival of sound experiments organised by the Institut Valencià de Cultura. It is the oldest festival of contemporary music and sound experimentation in Spain, and as such one of the exemplary festivals in the new music and sound creation scene in Spain and internationally. This year’s 44th Ensems Festival is themed Finestres (Windows). In the programming, a small window will be opened to focus on the work of Iannis Xenakis in the year of his centenary, paying tribute to one of the most interesting composers of the past century. In addition to Spanish orchestras such as the Municipal Symphony Orchestras of Valencia, Castellón and Alicante, the Orquestra de València, the ADDA Simfònica Orchestra and the Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana (Youth Orchestra of the Region of Valencia), groups such as the Lumina Ensemble, Grup Mixtour and B3:Brouwer Trío will perform. International artists and ensembles are also part of the Ensems Festival. There are more than 25 world premieres and twenty other Spanish premieres.
In addition, the Ensems Festival organises Composition Encounters (Encuentros de Composición) every year, to which renowned personalities of the current creative scene are invited to give special lectures and workshops on composition. This year, Isabel Mundry, Georges Aperghis, Toshio Hosokawa, Martín Matalón, Frauke Aulbert and Florentin Ginot will be guests. In addition, various mediation and educational projects with young people will take place. The Ensems Festival is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
