From Dusk to Dawn
The Riot Ensemble, London (UK)
The Riot Ensemble opens its 2022/23 season at Kings Place London with its concert From Dusk to Dawn. The programme includes two UK premieres and one world premiere: Anna Korsun’s Ulenflucht for twenty singing and playing performers (2016), Naomi Pinnock’s new work commissioned for the Riot Ensemble by Klangspuren Schwaz (2022), David del Tredici’s Szyzgy for soprano and ensemble (1966) and Andrés Nuño de Buen’s new work commissioned for the Riot Ensemble (2022).
David del Tredici’s Szyzgy is a rarely-performed work from the 1960s that uses a text by James Joyce and spotlights soprano Sarah Dacey. It is a tribute to composer and conductor Oliver Knussen, who championed del Tredici’s work in the UK, and to the US background of some of the ensemble members. The works by Anna Korsun and Naomi Pinnock are both UK premieres. With the approximately 10-minute work commissioned from Andrés Nuño de Buens, the Riot Ensemble aims to make a bold statement in its home base of London. The concert will introduce audiences to new voices and, above all, emphasise the importance of connecting the British music scene with the rest of the world. The Riot Ensemble’s From Dusk to Dawn concert in London is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
