Gaudeamus Festival 2025

Stichting Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Utrecht (NL)

The 2025 Gaudeamus Festival is centered around the Gaudeamus Award, one of the most respected prizes in contemporary music. Prior to the festival, the jury will choose four young composers to participate in rehearsals, workshops, and one-on-one coaching sessions at Muziekhuis Utrecht.

During the festival, each nominee will showcase and intensively workshop their compositions, performed by professional ensembles from both the Netherlands and abroad, including Asko|Schönberg, Quatuor Bozzini, Ensemble Klang, SMASH.duo, and K!art Ensemble. Their music will be integrated into the festival program, with concert introductions and interviews offering opportunities for the composers to engage with the audience, artistic directors, and ensembles.

On the festival’s final night, the winner of the Gaudeamus Award will be announced and honored with a commission to compose a new work, which will premiere at a future edition of the festival.

Supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the Gaudeamus Festival provides young composers resources, mentorship, and exposure within the competitive world of contemporary music.
