Hangzhou Contemporary Music Festival 2026

Hangzhou Contemporary Music Festival (CN)

Supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the Hangzhou Contemporary Music Festival presents new music by internationally recognized composers alongside works by established and emerging Chinese composers. Each edition brings together professional orchestras, ensembles, choirs, dancers, and opera productions. The festival is free and open to the public, attracting audiences from Hangzhou and beyond, while providing students and faculty with opportunities to engage directly with composers and performers.

The current edition includes 11 concerts, a press conference and opening concert, six lectures by Ying Wang, Fabian Panisello, David Ludwig, P.Q. Phan, Chaya Czernowin, and Yann Robin, and 10 concert portraits of composers including Ying Wang, Fabian Panisello, David Ludwig, P.Q. Phan, Chaya Czernowin, Yann Robin, Deqing Wen, Bruno Mantovani, and György Ligeti. The festival also hosts an international composition competition for orchestral and operatic works, with a resident composer serving on the jury and giving lectures on their artistic practice.
