Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (UK)
Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (hcmf//) 2026 opens with the UK premiere of James Dillon’s Lamentations for eight voices and ensemble, performed by Ensemble Proton and Schola Heidelberg, alongside a new work by Naomi Pinnock for Ensemble Proton. Further hcmf// commissions include Naomi by Jonah Nuoja Lua Haven for soprano, twelve musicians, and tape, performed by Riot Ensemble; Irradiance by Maija Hynninen, also performed by Riot Ensemble; Umwelt by Anselm McDonnell for chamber ensemble and organ, performed by Collegium Novum Zürich; and The Masks We Wear by Kari Watson for mezzo-soprano and electronics, created in collaboration with Rosie Middleton.
Composer in Residence Lauri Supponen presents four projects: East for accordion and clarinet, Picea for violin, electronics, and live video, Ave Maris Stella for Saxtronauts, and SYKLIT, a live project with percussionist Kalle Hakosalo and video artist Irene Suosalo.
Special projects include Torupill, a program by Ensemble for New Music Tallinn incorporating Estonian bagpipe, and Tombeau, a new work for two electric guitars by Jürg Frey. The closing program features the UK premiere of a new work by Rebecca Saunders for Ensemble Resonanz, conducted by Enno Poppe, alongside a new work by Ann Cleare.
