ShareMusic & Performing Arts

Inclusive Music Education with Electronic & Digital Instruments

ShareMusic & Performing Arts, Gränna (SE)

ShareMusic & Performing Arts, a Swedish knowledge center for artistic development and inclusion, is a non-profit organization that collaborates with the arts and cultural sector, the social and educational sector, and academia. This youth project by ShareMusic aims to expand access to creative music-making for pupils in special needs education through the use of electronic and digital instruments (EDI). Ten workshops will be delivered in five adapted schools located in regions where ShareMusic has not previously worked. Each school will host two workshops led by established composers and musicians.

Co-creation is at the heart of the project: pupils and professionals work together to develop the artistic content. Using the Mobile Music Kit (tablets, MIDI controllers, samplers, and other digital tools), participants explore sound, composition, and ensemble playing regardless of physical ability or prior musical experience. EDI enables pupils who may not be able to play traditional instruments to take an active and creative role in music-making and artistic collaboration.

The project encourages experimentation with sound, listening, and collective creation, fostering both artistic development and social participation. It will culminate in a jointly created concert streamed live, allowing families, educators, and peers across Sweden to experience and celebrate the pupils’ artistic achievements.

This youth project is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
